Chapter 22 — Leadership Without Theatre
Leadership is influence with responsibility. Theatre is influence with applause as the primary metric. The dojo teaches the difference if you pay attention: the best leaders often speak less, set clearer standards, and model conduct.
Fudoshin in leadership is not emotional flatness. It is not being captured by panic, flattery, or mob energy. Shoshin in leadership is remaining curious about people you have managed for years. Zanshin in leadership is following through on commitments after the meeting ends.
If you lead, reduce drama by increasing predictability. If you follow, reduce drama by increasing reliability. Both are forms of love.
